Case Study: Daily Mile Track Construction at Hungerford Primary School

Artificial Grass Daily Mile Track

Hungerford Primary is a two-form entry school for children 4 to 11 years. The school is committed to challenging its children and enabling all to be successful. Everyone is recognised as making an important contribution to both school life and the wider community.

Health and well-being are considered a key element of the curriculum and the school has pro-actively embraced the ‘Daily Mile’ activity programme. To facilitate this S&C Slatter was commissioned to construct a 262m artificial track around the playing field. The final surface is a special type of artificial grass that provides a durable, free-draining and attractive facility on which children can achieve their exercise targets.

Importantly it allows the Daily Mile to be run, skipped and or walked on a daily basis all year round. No more muddy, slippery and worn out natural turf.

To install the track, S&C Slatter excavated the existing ground along the planned route and installed a timber perimeter edge detail. A graded stone was then introduced to provide a stable and porous foundation and the artificial grass carpet secured in place.
