Financing for the future

When Marlborough House School came to S&C Slatter requiring a new Artificial Turf surface and shockpad for their existing Multi Use Games Area, the team were able to offer something unique. By introducing finance options for the works, we facilitated the school to resurface their MUGA immediately. This was a unique offering from S&C Slatter in the tendering process and ultimately directed the client to award them the contract.

The challenges ahead of project works commencing were the short delivery programme and the risks presented by typical British weather. From inception in December 2022 to completion in April 2023 the project was delivered on time and on budget. The timing of the work was not undertaken in the traditional summer sun but in the winter months when the weather conditions are notoriously difficult. Once the resurfacing contract was awarded to S&C Slatter, the first operation was to set up a site compound. Special consideration was given to health and safety procedures relating to safe traffic management throughout the live school site.

S&C Slatter began the resurfacing project by removing the old worn artificial turf, and ensuring disposal was undertaken in strict accordance with the Environment Agency’s regulations. Following that the rubber base from underneath the carpet was carefully removed and placed in appropriate waste containers and removed from site. The existing MUGA base was then inspected for structural suitability for the new shock pad and carpet. The new in-situ shockpad and artificial turf were installed carefully. The sand infill was delivered and carefully dressed in to the artificial turf, despite the inclement weather. Once finished, the new facility was inspected to the recognised industry standards, and play lines were added before successfully handing the new facility back over to the school.

Strong communication throughout the project development has been a key factor in the success of the working relationship between the school and S&C Slatter. Working with  Marlborough House School  from inception to completion, answering the school’s questions, aiding them with onsite logistics and their grounds team have helped to ensure access has been open throughout the time on site.  The result is the school children can play multiple sports on a new surface that will increase their level of fitness.  The school have the ability to finance the work in a way that allows them to still focus their pupil’s future, whilst benefiting from their new Multi Use Games Area now.
